Why gutter paint peels
Because factory finish is designed not to let anything stick to it. Baked-on enamel is smooth, hard, and slick — that's the whole point, it's what makes it shed water and dirt for twenty years. Paint has nothing to bite into.
So the entire job is prep. Scuff the finish (fine sandpaper or a scuff pad) to give it tooth. Degrease — gutters carry a film of road grime, pollen, and oxidation that no paint bonds through. The paint

The warranty catch

If your gutters are genuinely near end of life anyway, remember that new seamless aluminum comes in ~20 factory colours — baked on, warranted, and lasting decades rather than the 5–8 years a good repaint gives you.
